Are hybrid workers the happiest?

The pandemic saw the working world adapt to working from home. At first, it was stressful, but people embraced the challenge, and eventually, the advantages of working from home appeared.

Being able to load the washing machine between zoom meetings and have a coffee break in the garden revealed a more favourable work-life balance. Common struggles such as school runs, childcare, and home management became more manageable with less time in the office and commuting.

With the absence of a commute, employees had more money, time, decreased stress, and more focus. The pandemic also saw an increase in household pets, which has become another driving force for more home time so employees can spend more time with adored furry friends. Lockdown saw a boost in the purchase of loungewear, so it is no shock that being able to wear less formal and more comfortable attire is another motive.

A survey by Owl labs on remote working found the following:

  • Remote employees save an average of 40 minutes daily from commuting.
  • Since 2020 people have been meeting by video calls 50% more since COVID-19.
  • 23% of those surveyed would take a 10% pay cut to work from home permanently.
  • People are saving money from commuting less
  • 59% of respondents said they would be more likely to choose an employer who offered remote work compared to those who didn’t.

What about office perks? there are also benefits to working in an office including the social element, team building, productivity, support, and communication. Let alone a positive impact on the environment and that’s where hybrid comes in.

2022 has seen a rise in businesses offering hybrid working opportunities.

This usually looks like 1-3 days working from home and 1-2 days in the office.

Hybrid working can also have big benefits to the employer. Flexible working has been shown to increase employee retention and productivity whilst also decreasing office costs. Some businesses have been able to downsize their offices as well as save on energy costs. Many have operated using A/B office rotas, meaning they can manage staff levels, reduce office space and keep a productive and happy team. Hybrid workers have been found to suffer less burnout and feel more energised about their work compared to being fully remote or fully in person.

At Next Level recruitment, many of our clients are offering hybrid roles. If you would like to be considered for any of these opportunities – we are always on the lookout for new talent, like you. Have a chat with us today.
