Next Level Goes Green: Our Pledges

Posted on 13 December 2021 by Laura Mercer

We’re no strangers to fighting for a better world here at next level Recruitment, in the office and out. We are challenging standard and traditional approaches to recruitment every single day, fighting to level-up the marketing and creative industries and their workplaces. Now, we're thrilled to announce how we’ve pledged ourselves to the global fight against climate change too, with our new green partnership with Ecologi and our very own next level freelance forest...

The Green Economy
Our team is passionate about making workplaces, procedures and policies future-proof – so it only stands to reason that we’re also quite keen on ensuring that there is a future. Over the last decade we have seen the world begin to wake up to the grim prospects of the impending climate crisis. While world leaders meet to discuss how they can protect the world through legislation, companies have started to reflect on how they can cut their carbon emissions and be part of the solution.

The automotive industry changed their focus to electric vehicles, e-commerce businesses switched to recycling friendly packaging and during the pandemic, a large percentage of the UK became newly remote-workers, a move that had incredible impact, with London’s pollution falling by 60% during lockdown.

While the marketing, creative and recruitment industries are not necessarily the biggest polluters, there are things every single workplace can do to make a difference, and we teamed up with Ecologi, to show us how.

Our Commitments

Ecologi was founded by a group of environmentalists, who work to empower ordinary companies, workplaces and people to take real, sustainable and most importantly, impactful action on climate change. But where do we come in?

Firstly, we’ve agreed to take the steps required to ensure that every single team member at next level becomes climate positive. This means that we’ll be offsetting each staff member’s entire carbon footprint, including emissions from their home, travel, commuting, food, hobbies and more, so that they’re putting back more into the climate than they are polluting. We’re doing this by the introduction of a permanent flexible working policy whereby all staff work from home Mondays and Fridays, buying more carbon efficient technology for our office, and are investing in technology so that our team can present on tablets to minimise printing where possible.

Secondly, each month, we contribute towards a number of Ecologi’s green initiative projects that are taking place all over the world, from Chile to Madagascar, dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and carbon offsetting.

Finally, we’ve pledged to create our very own freelance forest! Studies worldwide have given great credit to the idea that planting trees will greatly tackle deforestation and reduce atmospheric carbon, with a recent study published in the Journal Science, claiming that by planting more than a half trillion trees, we could negate about 20 years of human-produced carbon emissions at the current rate, or about half of all carbon emitted by humans since 1960. While we can't quite promise a forest of a trillion too soon, we know our region is teeming with incredible freelancers and for every single freelance booking we make, we’ll plant a tree!

We’re thrilled to be sharing our journey to becoming a climate-positive company. At the very heart of our business is our commitment to levelling-up the marketing and creative industries and making the world a better place for the many future generations of marketeers and creatives to come. We think that investing in a greener, kinder, more innovative and sustainable future is the first step in that direction.

If you’d like to help us on our journey to a greener future, why don’t you take a look at some of the best Midlands talent going and contribute to our forest by hiring one of our ridiculously talented freelancers – we'd say that’s a hire to feel good about.
